My name is Diana, I’m 53 years old and live in England, close to the university city of Cambridge. I have Spinal muscular atrophy type 3 and lived with my parents all my life until after my father died and my mother became too frail to cope with me, even with the help of outside carers. I was then 46, and terrified at the prospect of having to leave the safety of the family home.

The Accent Nene Disability Group was set up in 2007 to put together the Disability Equality Scheme and Action Plan which we were required by central government to have in place by December 2007.
